Donor generosity helps the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University achieve its mission of assisting undergraduate and graduate students worldwide with an interest in individual liberty.
Since IHS is 100% privately funded, it's only through your generosity that we can continue our programs for young people. Your support is essential.
There are many ways to make an investment in IHS activities. You can give now online using a credit card, make a gift of stock, mail in a contribution, or take advantage of the many planned-gift options available.

Although the Institute for Humane Studies is affiliated with George Mason University, gifts to IHS are only used for the Institute's programming and work.
Gifts to the Institute for Humane Studies are tax-deductible. You may want to consider these helpful tax planning tips:
Charitable gifts are generally deductible in amounts up to 50% of adjusted gross income (AGI) for gifts of cash and 30% of AGI for gifts of appreciated property.
When appreciated securities are donated, you are entitled to a deduction for full market value, not just the original cost. This results in a tax deduction which includes "paper profits" you have not yet realized. If this type of giving interests you, you will want to donate the appreciated securities rather than sell them first—so as to avoid taxation on your "gain."
Consider making larger gifts in years when you have more income and will be in a higher tax bracket. The higher your tax bracket, the greater the savings from your gifts.
Be sure you obtain a receipt for gifts of $250 or more. These receipts must state that you did not receive any goods or services in exchange for your gift. If you are lacking a receipt for a gift you made to us, please contact us and we'll be glad to provide it to you.
It is only through the generosity of the IHS donors that we are able to conduct our important work.
Should you wish to learn more about any of the giving discussed above, please don't hesitate to contact Julie Burden at 1-800-697-8799 or jburden2@gmu.edu.
