As a graduate student, you know you are going to face adversity. You also know you might not have an answer to a hardship but instead find yourself in a quagmire of questions. Often that adversity and the resulting questions are resource related. Concerns regarding money frequently bleed into other areas creating unneeded stress.
A renewable, non-residency award, the Humane Studies Fellowship from the Institute for Humane Studies, is structured to alleviate some of the stress for graduate students developing, teaching and applying classical liberal ideas, with awards up to $15,000 per year.
Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Humane Studies Fellowship supports research and teaching in the humanities and social sciences. This fellowship is not intended for graduate students in the hard sciences such as chemistry or biology. Qualifying disciplines include philosophy, political science, economics, law, history, and sociology.
The fellowship is renewable. If you have been a previous recipient of funding you are still eligible to apply for the annual award. You may reapply each year you are registered for full-time studies.
IHS requires two recommendations as a portion of the application process. We understand the deadline for application submissions is approaching and this section of the application process may be challenging to complete prior to the cutoff date. If you find yourself in this situation please contact Tommy Creegan at funding@TheIHS.org.
Recipients must show proof of full-time enrollment for the academic year. You may have already planned for an additional requirement of presenting one of your papers at an academic conference or preparing one of your papers for submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
Humane Studies Fellowship applicants living abroad are considered, however, preference is given to graduate students living in the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom.
Applications for the Humane Studies Fellowship will be accepted until December 1, 2019. For your opportunity to be awarded up $15,000 apply today.
