IHS is soliciting proposals in support of its Discourse Initiative, a series of conversations—in-person and written—aimed at drawing scholarly attention back to the broad intellectual tradition of liberalism.

Hayek Fund

Advance your research within your discipline. Receive a grant to cover PhD application fees, research assistants, travel costs, conference fees, and other career-related expenses.

Freedom of expression with pen and paper - a free speech notebook

Grant for Free Speech & Open Inquiry

Faculty can receive $5,000 – $25,000 to support research, teaching, or student programs on topics related to free speech and open inquiry.

Sabbatical Research Fellowship

IHS offers funding for semester-long sabbaticals to faculty looking to conduct research on classical liberal ideas. Sabbatical Research Fellowships are offered at two levels, $85,000 and $50,000. Awards are not limited to tenured faculty. Faculty at any stage of their career may apply.

Research Sabbatical

Publication Support

IHS offers financial support to academics interested in publishing an edited volume or a special journal issue. Publication Support funding ranges from smaller top-up grants of $5,000-10,000 to larger grants to support ambitious publication projects of up to $40,000. Eligible subject areas include free speech, civil exchange, liberty, equality, market dynamism, and social stability.
