Packing List

  • Clothes
The dress code for IHS Summer Seminars is casual. July in Davidson typically has highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s, so be prepared to dress for the weather. The lecture halls can be chilly, however, so we recommend bringing layers. Bathrooms and showers are shared with other participants of your gender on your floor, so you may also wish to bring a robe and sandals for walking to and from the shower.
Comfortable walking shoes are also a good idea, both for walking around campus and exploring Davidson and Charlotte on your free afternoon.
  • Toiletries
Be sure to bring your own toiletries. While the Davidson dorms supply hand soap and bath towels, you’ll need to bring your own body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and any other toiletries you require for the week.
  • An umbrella
You’ll be doing quite a bit of walking between the dorms, lecture hall, and dining hall on campus, so bring an umbrella, rain jacket, or other means of staying dry in the event of rain.
  • A spare bag
IHS provides a number of free books to participants at Summer Seminars, so make sure to leave room in your suitcase for your new library additions.
  • Spending money
IHS covers all meals and materials for Summer Seminars, but you will have a free afternoon in the middle of the seminar where you’ll need to provide your own dinner and entertainment.
  • Medicine
In addition to any medication you typically take, you may wish to bring any as-needed medication you use, such as allergy medicine. Davidson College has a beautiful campus with lots of trees, and so a lot of potential irritants.
