Courtney Derr is the Senior Director of Student Education at the Institute for Humane Studies, leading a passionate and talented team dedicated to inspiring and educating millions of students about the ideas of freedom through events, videos, intensive educational programs, and more.
Courtney joined IHS in 2011 and oversaw the planning and execution of IHS’s 50th anniversary dinner. Since then, she’s worn many hats at IHS – planning events for IHS supporters around the country, temporarily leading the brand strategy and communications team, and supporting a previous Senior Director of Programs as deputy. Courtney has nearly 10 years of non-profit experience and has worked at the Tax Foundation and an anti-corruption NGO in addition to a brief stint in politics on Capitol Hill.
Courtney has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington in Seattle. She lives in Charlottesville, VA, with her husband, son, and miniature dachshund.
