Higher education is in crisis. Siloing and bureaucracy is creating serious gaps in research that advances the principles of freedom and human flourishing. Good ideas have played a central role in the history of human progress, and they have often come from institutes of higher learning. But we can’t wait for universities to get their act together. We need more good ideas now and we need your help to find them. 

American colleges and universities once served as the site of robust and open intellectual life where ideas were developed, challenged, and refined in a fearless pursuit of truth. Today’s universities, however, have abandoned truth-seeking. Just when we need higher education to play its critical role as a cornerstone for a free society, it’s failing.

The Institute for Humane Studies is dedicated to advancing the values and ideas that make a free and prosperous society possible. We believe freedom and the marketplace of ideas create a better future – a future in which individuals are able to unleash their potential and build a just, peaceful, and more prosperous world.

A better future is only possible with good ideas. Ideas molded by intelligent, motivated people who are dedicated to individual liberty, the rule of law, limited government, spontaneous order, and tolerance. These ideas make up the principles of classical liberalism, which are essential to fostering human flourishing. Ideas rooted in these principles can change the world for the better. But first, we need to ensure that the people – the scholars, intellectuals, and academics – who are doggedly dedicated to these principles and truth-seeking can propel their ideas beyond the confines of universities to have real world impact.

Our mission is clear: to support the achievement of a freer society. But, we cannot achieve this alone. We need champions like you to make this possible.

  3. If selected for consideration, you will speak with a recruiter
