Overview
Since achieving independence from communist authoritarianism in 1991, the small Baltic nation of Estonia has rebuilt a remarkable civil society marked by a firm commitment to liberal principles and experimentation with new technologies promoting government accountability and efficiency. There is much that other nations can learn from Estonia’s experiments in liberalism in the face of incipient authoritarianism, including countries like Chile and the United States.
This online research discussion will feature a presentation from Victor Espinosa (University of Desarrollo), co-author of “E-Government as a Development Strategy: The Case of Estonia.” Espinosa will discuss his paper and the current state of the research field, and make a comparison between Estonia’s e-governance development strategy and the contemporary trajectory of Chile. Afterward, there will be breakout discussion sessions to identify opportunities for new projects and collaborations.
This event will take place on June 4 at 12:00–1:30 PM Eastern Time and will be hosted via Zoom.
